HOMS 2.2 TUESDAY

HOMS 2.2 TUESDAY
Do Now: Brainstorm some qualities you think the WOMEN and MEN on Mango Street might have (Make a two column brainstorm in Notability)

Today's Objectives:
  • identify types and make inferences about imagery and figurative language
  • make inferences about how and why authors use archetypes to change familiar patterns
Agenda:

1) Do Now/Share
2) Freewrite: What kind of gender roles influenced your childhood? In 5-7 minutes, describe the role of Women and Men among the adults in your life growing up, as well as what you remember about the roles of boys and girls in elementary and middle school. (Create a google doc in your student folder)
3) "The Earl of Tennessee"-- Read aloud and make inferences
4) Practice Six Habits in Notability: Vignette assignment three (3 annotations PER vignette)

  • "Marin" (34)
  • "A Rice Sandwich" (51)
  • "Chanclas" (54)
  • "Hips" (57)
  • "Elenita, Cards, Palm, Water" (70)
You should have THREE annotations per vignette. You MUST use inference for EACH vignette.

5) Summarizer: These stories are composed of Esperanza's observations about her neighborhood.  How do you think she feels about her future/growing up on Mango Street?

Homework: Finish reading and annotating Vignette Assignment three. You should have THREE annotations per vignette. You MUST use inference for EACH vignette.
